Did you know that the food you eat can communicate with your cells? The foods we ingest have microRNAs, small cellular pieces that can interfere with messages from our cells to create proteins involved in cell aging, tumor formation, tumor suppression, bone growth and more. MicroRNAs have been researched for over 20 years and thousands of them have been identified in that time.  While research in the realm of microRNAs has been heavily focused on cancer we are now starting to see data on how our lifestyle choices, exercise, physical fitness and the type of diet we consume directly affect microRNA levels in our body.  In this episode Doc J breaks down why microRNAs may be a way to assess the impact of your diet and lifestyle on your overall health and what diet and lifestyle interventions seem to make the most impact on overall health.

What You’ll Learn In Today’s Episode:

  • How herbs and veggies protect us from cancer
  • Why diets excluding entire food groups may not benefit us
  • How microRNA might be a novel way to measure health status
  • How alcohol consumption and physical fitness affect microRNA

One of the most common questions in my office is when is the best time to take my supplements? It’s confusing out there as to what to do when and I find most people are taking their supplements at the wrong times. Minerals such as calcium and magnesium can interfere with the absorption of iron which can worsen conditions such as anemia instead of make them better. In this episode Doc J breaks down optimal times to take the most popular supplements out there from multivitamins to probiotics, antioxidants, calcium, magnesium and more.

What You’ll Learn In Today’s Episode:

  • Why multivitamins are better taken with meals
  • What minerals interact and block nutrient absorption
  • How to take probiotics to maximal effect
  • How digestive enzymes turn into inflammation reducers when taken on an empty stomach

Stress is often overlooked as doctors pick apart and investigate the symptoms that a patient has not the cause. How often do we really assess what we are eating and the lives that we are living in relation to creating our own stress? We can all relate to the symptoms of being stuck in stressed fight or flight mode all the time & we’ve heard how they can make you an anxious, depressed, fat, moody, gassy, acid reflux havin’, pain riddled, fatigued insomniac but what we don’t talk about is how as stress mounts it kills your cells slowly. In this episode Doc J dissects how the phytonutrients in everyday herbs & spices can help your cells to manage stress better.

What You’ll Learn In Today’s Episode:

  • Why our love of nutrient void foods is killing us
  • What spices you need in your life to manage stress
  • How Echinacea and cannabis work together to fight stress
  • How to get in key herbs daily to help your cells manage stress

A detox can be useful to clear toxins from the body and reset after a long run of eating out, making poor choices and drinking too much but is it really worth it? Too many people try to detoxify their bodies but don’t have the vitamins and minerals in their body to do so. Unfortunately, all too often we detox, don’t even know if we cleared anything out of the system and then go right back to re-toxing ourselves the day after the detox. After you finish a detox the goal is to focus habits to keep your immune system running on all cylinders and your blood sugar balanced but we rarely do this. We are inundated with all kinds of viruses, bacteria, mold and other toxins that detoxes can’t clear and your body is fighting daily to keep at bay. Add to that our sugar cravings, snack food habits and high stress lifestyles that keep our blood sugar out of balance and we have a recipe for quick aging disaster. In this episode Doc J breaks down why detoxing every so often is not enough to ward off autoimmune disease, heart disease and diabetes.

What You’ll Learn In Today’s Episode:

  • Why detoxing isn’t enough to stay healthy
  • How fad diets popular right now can make you sick
  • Why some of the fittest people have trashed cells
  • How to keep your cells primed to detoxing all the time

Autoimmune conditions are on the rise and it’s based on how well you manage your stress and your food choices. The strength of your protective mucosal tissue has been found to make up 99% of your immune system. Unfortunately, stress, eating processed foods, vitamin deficiencies, chronic infections and environmental stressors damage mucosal tissues.   There are 155 autoimmune conditions and most recent research has estimated that 1 in 6 have an autoimmune condition and many are not aware of it. In this episode Doc J breaks down how the autoimmune process develops, what's she's seen in her practice and what we can do to prevent autoimmune conditions from developing.

What You’ll Learn In Today’s Episode:

  • How synthetic vitamins reduce your immunity
  • Why stress management & blood sugar predict how well you age
  • How to boost your innate immunity
  • How vaccines can induce autoimmune conditions
